Canadian Harambee Education Society
We use 100% of your sponsorship for scholarships.
You can donate as much or as little as you like. The cost of sponsoring a CHES girl is $500 (Canadian dollars). However an additional $50 is requested to provide the additional necessary support for each girl's educational programme. Girls spend 4 years at secondary school please bear this in mind when you commit yourself to paying for a scholarship, and please commit to paying for her whole education!
If you cannot afford to pay for a full scholarship, why not pay what you can? CHES will put your donation with others to make up scholarships. Or your donation can be spent on textbooks, books for the library, school equipment, medicine, and other needful things.
Please do not send CHES books, clothes, or other items. It is very expensive to ship such things to Africa, might not be what is needed, and is also against CHES' policy of helping the local economy by buying books, clothing and so on from Kenyan and Tanzanian businesses.
You don't have to fill out a form, just send cheques, postal orders, bank drafts, or even currency (but we don't recommend this last one, in case it goes astray) to us at the address on our contact us page.
Every year you will get a photograph of the student whose scholarship you are paying for, her school grades, plus letters from her. In return, you can send her small school-related gifts, but we find such things as calculators and other supplies are best managed by donating to CHES, as we can be sure the supplies we buy with your money will get to your student, and also benefit the local economy.
