Our CHES (Canadian Harambee Education Society) fundraiser for Water Security at the Katesh CHES Hostel was held at the Sutherland Bar in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Doors opened at 5:30 p.m. with supper at 6:30 p.m. The meal was a choice of steak, chicken breast or veggie burger, along with caesar salad, potato wedge fries and garlic toast. There was musical entertainment by “After Four”.
Tickets were only $20. Over $8000 was raised through a silent auction, tickets, book donations and from many donations.
The CHES hostel, located in Katesh, Tanzania, accommodates up to 100 CHES sponsored girls. The complex has experienced water shortages in the last few years due to an aging municipal infrastructure and insufficient regional rainfall. This year’s fundraiser will provide water security for the hostel in the form of guttering and storage tanks.
